Summer Caregivers Available for Seniors and the Physically Disabled in Corona Del Mar

Summer is an exciting time for everyone, children especially. With school out and open parks and beaches, children and adults alike can enjoy themselves to the fullest in this season. However, there are certain groups that may feel excluded from such activities due to their physical abilities. I am speaking of the elderly seniors and physically disabled. Those who are residing with their families may feel excluded from such quality family activities due to certain physical limitations that tend to appear with age.

What we, as a senior home care agency, offer for such circumstances are senior caregivers or caregivers for the disabled to tend to their needs 24 hours, overnight or temporarily. By having someone there to take all the responsibilities of caregiving, your loved one can feel safe while also enjoying the benefits of companionship. Not only that, but their health is now under professional care, as our caregivers each have two years or more of prior caregiving experience. They are trained to handle all facets of care, including Elder Care, Incontinence Care and Diabetic Care.

Try seafood for American Heart Month/ A-1 Home Care Corona Del Mar

Corona Del Mar is called the heart of the sea in Spanish. With stunning ocean views and amazingly fresh seafood available in plenty, we at A-1 Home Care thought we'd offer some region specific heart healthy tips in honor of February's American Heart Month.

Heart disease is a top health concern for Americans, and if you’re looking to add more healthy food choices to your prevention plan—without comprising on taste—seafood is a great option. Cold-water ocean fish is best because it's rich in omega-3s, which according to the American Heart Association, have been shown to lower triglyceride levels, blood pressure and the risk of abnormal heartbeats. However, in general, most types of seafood can be eaten as part of a healthy diet because they are high in protein, but low in fat and calories.

Fun activities for elders with dementia/ A-1 Home Care in Corona Del Mar

For seniors coping with dementia, one of the greatest frustrations is the inability to do those things they once loved. Activities and hobbies that used to be second nature might start to feel fuzzy or distant. This harsh reality can be discouraging for people suffering from Alzheimer, as well as their friends or loved ones who are trying to engage them. The biggest goal for care givers when planning any type of activity for seniors with dementia is to make them feel successful. It doesn’t matter if they play the game right or if the activity is even completed, the important thing is that they have fun.

Cooking or baking can evoke so many memories and the activity opportunities are endless.  Here are a few ideas that will help get started planning a fun, flavor-filled experience for seniors with dementia:
  • Prepare a chocolate tasting
  • Sample different flavors of tea
  • Try tasting familiar holiday treats (candy corn, candy canes, peeps, Hersey’s kisses, etc.)
  • Taste different flavors of ice cream
  • Dip pretzels in various sauces (honey-mustard, spicy-ranch, BBQ sauce, etc.)
  • Prepare a fruit salad together and steal bites
  • String cranberries or popcorn for an outdoor Christmas tree
  • Clean out a pumpkin, roast the seeds, and have fun carving
