Try seafood for American Heart Month/ A-1 Home Care Corona Del Mar

Corona Del Mar is called the heart of the sea in Spanish. With stunning ocean views and amazingly fresh seafood available in plenty, we at A-1 Home Care thought we'd offer some region specific heart healthy tips in honor of February's American Heart Month.

Heart disease is a top health concern for Americans, and if you’re looking to add more healthy food choices to your prevention plan—without comprising on taste—seafood is a great option. Cold-water ocean fish is best because it's rich in omega-3s, which according to the American Heart Association, have been shown to lower triglyceride levels, blood pressure and the risk of abnormal heartbeats. However, in general, most types of seafood can be eaten as part of a healthy diet because they are high in protein, but low in fat and calories.

Elderly Veterans and Spouses may be eligible for pensions and aid

Not many veterans are aware that there is a government benefit that pays for caregivers, assisted living and nursing homes. This is called the Aid & Attendance benefit, which can cover the costs of caregivers in the home. Wartime veterans (who have served at least a day in wartime duty) may be eligible to receive up to $2,019/ month and up to $1,094/ month for a widow of a veteran.

Considered a "well kept secret" by the VA Administration, applying to receive these benefits may prove tricky. A-1 Home Care offers free consultations to determine eligibility for Veterans Benefits. If you or your spouse was an active veteran, call our offices for assistance with filling your application.
